This has been a long time coming for me. For the last 30+ years, my ex-girlfriend's dad owned this car. I was with him the day we went and picked it up from a storage yard and helped him fix it up. I ended up redoing the interior, rebuilt the 4 speed, rebuilt the tri power, added disc brakes to the front as well as repainting it with the original code P Iris Mist when I owned a body shop 25+ years ago. The car really looked good. Fast forward a couple of decades and the car has been sitting and not pampered the way it should be. I still keep in contact with my ex girlfriend and her dad and have been talking with him about selling it to me. I know it was a very hard decision for him, but it came home with me after days of negotiating. Once I got the car home, I removed all of the interior and replaced the passenger seat cover, rear seat covers, all seat foam, carpet, headliner, door panels, seat belts and gave it a thorough cleaning that would have made Alice from the Brady Bunch proud. I also washed the hell out of it (paint still looks good) and started cleaning the 389 up. The car didn't come with the original 389 (original block was in a scrap pile behind the car) when bought by my ex girlfriends dad 25+ years ago and had a 400 out of a '67 GTO. When I asked him what was in it now, he said "I found the old motor out of your '65 GTO project, so I had it rebuilt and put in". I was never able to restore my '65 GTO and had to sell it, so having the 389 out of it makes it that much better for me. The original YR block is set aside and safe for future plans.
This car was originally equipped with tripower from the factory. Lots of clean up was needed after years of sitting.
The code P designates the Iris Mist color top and bottom of the car body and the A paint code designates that it had black painted wheels.
